About this
Case Study
Benton County, Indiana has over 500 wind turbines and a study was conducted to understand the community's acceptance of them. A survey was sent to 750 residents and key stakeholders were interviewed. Financial benefits are the main reason for acceptance and transparency and participation did not play a large role. Residents are not concerned with visual impacts or noise. Concrete benefits, such as reduced energy bills, could increase acceptance. Despite concerns in literature and media, Benton County is largely accepting of wind farms.
